Artists : Kay Widdowson

I studied film and graphics at Chesterfield college of Art and went on
to work in animation for children's television for five years before
going freelance. I've now been illustrating for 20 years and still
love every minute!
I live and work in a small victorian terraced house in Chorlton,
Manchester with my 2 beautiful - but naughty - cat's Tiger and Pablo.
I live on the edge of Chorlton meadows/nature reserve and spend half
my day watching the wildlife - and so do my cat's!!
I belong to a printmaking group based up in Rossendale - we are a
group of artists who sell in galleries and at markets in the north-
west and we call ourselves Printers inc. When i'm not chatting and
drinking tea i produce etchings in the old traditional way with a
printing press and lots of smelly inks and turps. Bliss!
I collect loads of vintage stuff - especially ceramics and books and
spend most weekends pottering around markets and retro shops. I also
love handbags - especially embroidary ones and i tend to collect lots
of those too. - infact i seem to collect anything!
I'm a big jazz fan and i love early swing and also a Frank Sinatra
fan. I also love the early motown and sixties stuff .
When i'm not working i like to go to a show or exhibition but i do
find all my life seems to be Art related!
I can't think of anything better than to go into my lovely workroom
everyday with my cat's and radio, tea and biscuits at the ready and
create pictures.
