About this artist
Chantal Renn
After gaining a degree in illustration at Loughborough University I initially worked for the successful illustrator Emma Thomson, a fantastic experience which gave me a valuable insight into the world of children’s book publishing and enabled me to develop my skills technically. During this time I also continued to produce and improve my own work and now, as a part of the Bright Agency, it’s extremely gratifying to be working full time doing something I am passionate about. Furthermore, as I also enjoy writing, I have taken the opportunity to both write and illustrate my first children’s book, something I am proud to have achieved.
Many, many things influence my work, from 1950s animation to antique furniture to my slight obsession with baking! I love collecting reference to inform my illustrations and enable me to add interesting, unique details. This is helpful when designing characters, giving them personalities and an exciting world to live in. I always endeavor to effectively use colour and design to make each piece of work engaging for the viewer and recognisable as one of my own. Having a job that means I can spend my days being creative and using my imagination is fabulous!
